Dear La Plata Student-Athletes and Families
I hope that you and your family are doing well. At this point in time, CCPS has made the decision to move forward with spring sports. I can tell you that I have experienced many different emotions that have left me feeling sad and excited at the same time. I am saddened when I think about all of our La Plata student athletes who have missed out on a defining moment in their lives, but I am also very excited to see the return to athletics. The pandemic has been challenging for everyone and our new normal will definitely take some time to get used to. I also know that tough decisions have been made in this past year and they are accepted by some, and not by others. As we focus on a safe return for our spring athletes to the competition field, I have attached the CCPS Re-engagement plan for your review. After you have reviewed this document, I want to lead you to our registration process that can be found here… https://laplataathletics.org/athletic-clearance-forms/
You will see directions on how to make an account, as well as a short video on how to register for a spring sport. If you registered for spring sports during the fall session, then you will need to make sure that your physical is up to date and uploaded to the website. Those individuals will not have to re-register. I will contact each athlete that has registered prior to let them know that they are cleared for participation or if they have pending required information missing.
There will be a substitute eligibility plan that will not include attendance and grades but rather how many credits a student has earned. I will check each students’ eligibility. All first time freshmen will be eligible, sophomores must have 6 credits, juniors must have 12 credits, and seniors must have 18 credits completed.
Gratitude is a principle in my life that has led me along the way and helped me make important decisions. I am grateful for the opportunity to get our student athletes back on the field. I am grateful to be able to rekindle the relationships with our coaches, athletes and their families. Finally, I am grateful for the opportunity to lead the La Plata High School Athletics Department.
